"So who has committed murder?...... No there are no murders in Africa! only regrettable deaths! And from those deaths we derive the benifits of civilization..... benifits we can aford so easily because those lives were bought so cheaply!!"
The Constant Gardner is a story about a human rights activist and her husband trying to uncover a government/corporate scandal! A compelling story! Loved it!!!

you might like "girl in the cafe"...not quite as gritty but to do with international aid and hypocracy...very interesting watch
In my opinion, this film (The Constant Gardener), although trying to deal with real life third-world problems, isnt very impressive, because:
1) The story didnt really seem to have a point, except what the film states so obviously (As in your quote above).
2) The relationships between actors in the story, their expressions, objectives dont really add up to a focused conclusion to the film.
3) Its not a true story and does not involve any real people or events. A film which tries to address foreign 3rd world realities may be better placed with a real story instead of fiction (there are plenty lying around, even in Sri Lanka). Of course, this is probably not be practical, since in this case, the film's director is likely to be assasinated also :)
Contrast this to one of Ralph Fienne's best performances, and probably one of the best films in the world - "The English Patient". A film with real depth, and an undying message which stays with you forever.
Check out "The English Patient" - one of Ralph Fienne's much better movies, in my opinion.
